Enhancing Operations Monitoring with RFID

Insights from HID’s Head of Sales for India and MEA

In industries like oil and gas, manufacturing, and logistics, efficient operations monitoring is crucial for productivity and safety. HID’s RFID solutions pave the way for advanced, reliable tracking and asset management. Pankaj Chaudhary, Head of Sales for India and MEA in Identification Technologies (IDT) at HID, shares how these RFID solutions transform industry standards, streamline processes, and enhance real-time monitoring to help companies operate smarter and more securely.

How do HID’s RFID solutions improve operations monitoring in industries such as oil and gas, manufacturing, and logistics?

Our products, which incorporate technologies like barcoding, RFID, and RTLS, are designed to enhance operational efficiency, compliance, management, and safety. These solutions are especially vital for industries like oil and gas, where asset tracking is crucial. In such industries, where multi-million-dollar assets are deployed across vast oil fields, our RFID tags make it easy to track, maintain, and monitor assets. This real-time visibility reduces costs, improves maintenance schedules, and optimizes overall operations. Our technology allows companies to know exactly what assets they possess, their maintenance status, and the corresponding cost savings over time.

What are the key features of HID’s product lineup, and how do they address current challenges?

Our core technologies—barcoding, RFID, and RTLS—offer significant advantages for operational challenges. RFID, in particular, enables fast, efficient inventory tracking and supports safety compliance. We also specialise in fuel management, where our technology tracks fuel usage in real time at fueling stations. For example, RFID tags are placed on vehicles, and nozzle sensors monitor fuel dispensing, automating the refuelling process. All our products are ATEX-certified, ensuring they can be safely used in hazardous oil and gas environments, including extreme temperatures ranging from -50°C to +50°C. Our rugged RFID tags are built to withstand harsh environments, including pressure testing with sledgehammers, making them highly durable for critical applications.

What industries or markets are you targeting for future expansion?

Our primary focus is on industries like oil and gas, logistics, supply chain, retail, and warehousing. In these sectors, we are continuously launching new products and innovating technologies. For instance, our RTLS solutions enhance worker safety in oil and gas environments by tracking employees in real-time. This allows companies to monitor their workforce, ensuring compliance and facilitating swift evacuations in emergencies. We’ve also expanded our portfolio by acquiring two RTLS ultra-wideband technology companies in 2024, which helps us develop cutting-edge solutions for real-time asset tracking and worker safety.

How are sustainability and innovation integrated into HID’s future plans?

As industry leaders, sustainability and innovation are at the forefront of our strategy. We continuously improve our products to meet new industry demands. In 2024, we launched the RFID XR2 reader that scans RFID tags over long distances with exceptional speed, capable of scanning 1,000 assets in seconds. This technology automates processes that were once manual, reducing labor costs and optimizing operations. Many of our  BLE RTLS tags are equipped with sensors that track temperature and motion, allowing for preventive maintenance. This helps companies avoid downtime, saving millions in costs over the long term while promoting sustainable operations through enhanced efficiency and reduced resource usage.
